The project was to renovate the bathroom at Preschool #42.

Wyoming reports:

I am writing to give you an update on our water and sanitation project at Pre-School # 42 here in Luhansk, Ukraine.

The existing sinks were replaced, and an additional sink and faucets were installed. Also, two new toilets were installed. Finally, the cracked floor and wall tiles were replaced to create a sanitary environment.

Almost as soon as the money was received I had to return to the United States for my extension leave and because I would be gone a month my Director had to take on the oversight of the project and the funds. I was a little nervous about not being here but of course that could not be helped. So it was with some trepidation that I went with my Director immediately after my return to view what had been accomplished.

I cannot express adequately my pleasure on what I found. The project was complete and was and is amazing. The Director of the school according to my Director immediately took over the supervision of the project and needed very little assistance. She purchased the supplies, organized the volunteers and got right to work. If there were problems, as there always are in construction projects, she promptly found solutions.

I have seen very few projects here in Ukraine that have been completed on time and with such good workmanship. I am very proud of all who helped, particularly in the school’s Director.

The only part of this project that was not completed was the painting of the wall facing the toilets. The wall was re-plastered, but due to the increase in prices for supplies between the time of our request and funding, there was not sufficient money. We are attempting to get the paint donated locally, and some PCVs have volunteered to do the painting with the help of the parents. I feel sure this will be accomplished soon.

I really appreciate all your help and I am so happy I could be part of a project that was so successful and so needed.

We extend our thanks to Wyoming for the successful completion of this project.
