This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Maggie Savage.

The project was to repair the water pump at the Ndikiri Kunda Lower Basic School.

Maggie reports:

We have finished the water project with great success!

I hired a local man (the one who originally built the pump) to come and fix our pump. He opened it up and fixed all the parts inside with the kit. He also found that because of the crack in the cement, the water was contaminated.

We hired two local men to clean out the water and treat it. The crack was then cemented. We now have a working water pump and clean water to drink!!!

When I went back to school I was greeted with huge praises. The staff (especially the cooks) and students were so excited! My counterpart who creates and keeps our school garden almost had tears he is so excited. We are now planting new veggies for the students since we have a water source to use.

Thank you for all your support. My students would not have clean drinking water without you.

We are grateful to Maggie for completing this project, and again thank the Elmo Foundation and Maggie’s friends and family for providing the funding.
