The project was to deepen and improve 2 wells and build 2 brick basins.

Miranda reports:

The Medina Abdoul Well Improvement project is completed! Thank you to Water Charity for the support and funding!

After receiving the funds for the project, we immediately began digging the garden well deeper. It was a community effort: A well digger from our village hand dug the well with a shovel and pick, and all of the women and kids worked together to remove the excess water and sand as he worked.

Conclusion of Medina Abdoul Well Improvement Project – Senegal With the help of a village counterpart, I traveled to our regional capital and picked up all of the supplies from the hardware store. We got everything back to the village by loading the supplies onto a bus and then a donkey cart, and soon started construction of the basins and well edging. Local masons provided the labor, and once we got mobilized the work progressed smoothly and quickly.

The only hiccup was an unexpected rain storm that destroyed most of the just finished bricks. Some time was lost, but we were able to re-claim the cement and re-make the bricks.

Now our garden well has plenty of water! The village women have expressed their gratitude over and over again at the abundance of water. The basins have made everybody’s daily watering tasks easier. The women team up to keep the basins full, while the kids splash around and play in them. Thank you again!

We are grateful to Miranda for completing this project and to the Elmo Foundation for providing the major funding.
