The project was to install a rainwater catchment and storage system at the school.

Brett reports:

The Mannatta Primary Water Project has been completed.

We proposed the project idea to a community health worker that we work very closely with. His home is near the school, and he had heard about their need for clean water due to an old contaminated well. The meeting shocked us all when not only all the teachers and head master made time, but all of the parents joined in as well. It was an exciting meeting and everyone agreed to be a part of the project.

At this meeting the parents decided that they would be responsible for laying the cement foundation in the middle of the school grounds and they would also set up the gutters that joined the tank to the headmaster’s office building. They arranged themselves into work groups and each set their own tasks.

Conclusion of Manatta Primary School Rainwater Catchment Project – KenyaI picked up the 3,200 liter water tank early in the morning and had it driven over to the school. I have worked with the guys from Rasta Supermarket on several projects now and we are talking about them even offering discounts for schools for future projects.

All the work was scheduled to be finished when I arrived, and when I got there, they were finishing everything up. The last of the gutters were being set up on the roof and all we had to do was put the tank on the foundation and wait for rain.

Everyone has been so excited. Before Water Charity’s help, all they had at the school was a shallow well with a broken pump. Now there is the possibility of clean water all throughout the year. It hasn’t rained yet but we are anxiously waiting.

“We feel so glad, and truly blessed for your help.” – Headmaster Maureen

We are grateful to Brett for completing this project.
