The project was to build 15 latrines in Kounsi.
Ashleigh reports:
The Kounsi latrine project has been completed according to plan. The entire population of Kounsi will now have access to a working latrine.
Fifteen latrines were installed in a village that once had zero latrines.
There was a minor delay, as the rainy season started early and continued to be very strong, so the masons had to work when they could avoid the rain.
After the construction, I went to each household individually to discuss hygiene. The families now know to cover their latrine holes and wash hands with soap and water after each use. We also discussed the importance of allowing children to use latrines.
The Chief of the Village was very grateful that we were able to transport the materials directly to the village. He explained that it can be very hard and expensive to transport heavy items to the remote village. He feels that the village would have had a very difficult time trying to do such a project without support.
