Conclusion of Koboye Well Improvement Project – Senegal

This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Ashleigh Baker. To read about the beginning of the project, CLICK HERE.

The project was to repair and improve the two wells in Koboye.

Ashleigh reports:

The well improvement project in Koboye is complete.

The first well that was worked on was the well that provided water most of the year. We found out quickly that there was plenty of water still available, but we just were unable to reach it because there were so many fallen buckets!

The well digger pulled up 32 buckets in total, as well as some fabric. Then he started sending sand and dirt up. He is sure we will be able to pull water throughout the hot season!

Now we know that we should do a yearly cleanup of the well so that we do not have to hire someone to come to the village and spend an entire day cleaning up.

For the second well, the well digger dug until he found water and took about seven sacks of dirt and sand out of the well. They are now able to pull water every morning. This provides easily accessible water for the entire village, some 300-400 people.

Thank you for assisting Koboye!

We are grateful to Ashleigh for completing this project.
