The project was to build 10 additional latrines in 10 compounds.

The project was timely completed according to plan.
After doing the initial latrine project in Kewoye I had agreed that if it went well, I would be more than happy to do a second phase to have greater latrine coverage in this remote village. My work partner in Kewoye, Sara, made this project run quite smoothly on the village side of things each time. He held a meeting to determine the second group of households who would dig holes for a latrine while I arranged the purchase and transport of materials.
I went to the hardware store in the regional capital, Kedougou. Purchasing the materials (cement, rebar, iron wire, PVC air vent pipe) was simple, although arranging transport was, again, a battle since Kewoye is about 20 km off the main (dirt) road. Furthermore, without cell phone service and with a river to cross, I was unable to inform my work partner in Kewoye when the materials would arrive due to changes in Kedougou.
Despite a mistake with the delivery on the hardware store’s behalf, all the materials arrived, some by motorcycle. Fortunately, all the holes were dug, and the masonry was completed in a week.
The trained masons of the village were very helpful in constructing the latrines, and the families were ecstatic to be receiving them. I am very proud of the work of the villagers of Kewoye and am happy that I was able to fulfill a simple need for these people.
