Conclusion of Ker Kgornyan Well Project – The Gambia
The project was to complete the well at Ker Kgornyan that was started a few years ago, and install the pump.
The work of completing the well and installing the pumps was finished after two phases. The first was digging the well deeper and lining it with concrete as well as forming the concrete cap. The second was installing the pipes and pumps. This was challenging to the local mechanic who hadn’t installed this particular pump before but with a combined effort from the villagers and technicians from the Ministry of Agriculture it was accomplished.
The chairman of the village development committee and others are grateful for the work, especially the women. Ousman Ndure, who first called attention to the unfinished well and the pump parts in storage at the village, wishes the donors to know that they are in the prayers of the people of Ker Ngornyan. He says the new pumps are not only providing safe drinking water, they are reducing the work load of the women who do most of the fetching of water for daily needs. He, and others, say they can’t thank you enough for your help.
We are grateful to Suzanne for completing this project, and again thank The Soneva SLOW LIFE Trust for providing the funding.
