The project was to clean up sewage hazards and build two clean-water septic tanks.

Hannah reports:

I’m happy to report the Kebemer Correctional Facility Sanitation Project complete before the rains arrived!

After consulting further with our mason and other members of the community, the decision was made to combine the two smaller clean water tanks into one larger, more durable tank. The tank was dug out and the cement bricks were constructed and built.

Next, red rocks were brought in from the villages outside Kebemer and filled in around the cement middle, to add durability and slow leeching.

Finally, a cover was made and the tank was reburied and piping installed to the kitchen.

The mason is confident this tank will last upwards of 20 years, and everyone is content with its quality.

The standing water clean-up has begun by digging and rerouting water and letting it dry out.

“We send our heartfelt thanks to Water Charity, without whom this project would not have been possible. By this gesture you have significantly helped a major environmental and health problem, especially in the rainy season, as well as to preserve the dignity of the inmates here. We are very happy, thank you truly.” – Madame Diop, Director of Penitentiary Administration

Thank you! It has been a great pleasure to work with Water Charity. I am thrilled with the urgency you responded with, and am very happy to see a much needed improvement made in my community.

We are grateful to Hannah for completing this unique and important project, and again wish to thank those who have donated thus far.
