This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Brittany Werkheiser.

The project was to build a rainwater catchment and storage system at the school.

Brittany reports:

The Huhuini Primary School project has been completed.

We ended up going a little off the project plan because fortunately the community decided to become involved in order for us to purchase a much larger tank. I received a phone call from the headmaster of the school asking if we could purchase a 5,000 liter tank. I said, SURE, but for this to be possible I need the community to purchase and install all of the roof rain gutters and also to purchase and build the cement foundation. Well, he called me back on Friday and told me it was all complete! I was thrilled.

For this particular community to be able to afford the materials was not something I expected, but the health of their children was more important. They all pulled their resources together and now with the larger 5,000 liter tank, more children will be able to have clean water for a much longer period of time.

Now, we are not worried about the dry season. Now, we are confident that this community will be much healthier because of Water Charity. The headmaster was beyond thankful for the funding and the timely matter for the completion of the project. He said he truly feels blessed and is so excited to keep educating his community and school children on clean water.

We are grateful to Brittany for achieving an outcome beyond expectation. We again wish to thank the Dr. Clarke Waitsburg School District for providing the funding.
