Conclusion of Gorky Library Sanitation Project – Ukraine

This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Logan Brennan. To read about the beginning of the project, CLICK HERE.

The project was to provide for needed sanitation facilities at the library.

Logan reports:

Gorky Park Library received funds for bathroom and washroom repairs in April and slowly yet surely completed the work by August, 2012. Multiple check-ins were conducted between Peace Corps volunteers and library staff to ensure that the project was meeting its goals.

All requested repairs were made, including replacements of old sink pipes, installment of two new toilets, and repair of toilet plumbing. The local administration was so impressed after seeing the repairs of the bathroom that they also donated funds to remodel the floors and a utility closest for the library facilities to further improve their situation.

Library staff members are ecstatic over the completed project. They lamented that “Every day we saw our bathrooms and unfortunately could not use them”. Now, they have commented:

“We are thankful for the help we received to fix the small things that we needed.”

“We want to say thank you, simply thank you!”

Library staff members have already reported that the improvement to their bathrooms has increased usage of the library, and they couldn’t be happier and more thankful for the help and results from Appropriate Projects.

We are grateful to Logan for completing the project. We are still seeking donations.
