Conclusion of Faraba Well Improvement Project – Senegal
The project was to improve the well by increasing the depth by 3 meters.
I’m writing to inform you of the completion of the Faraba Well Improvement project.
Four cement/iron molds were made for the deepening of about 3 meters. Two of my closest community counterparts were in charge of the labor for this. The women gathered and brought sand to the garden for the cement-mixing. A well digger from the rural town of Saraya was employed for digging the well.
Due to the season many able bodies were at the gold mines in the area, both men and women. This caused the project timing to go on a bit longer than expected. Each day that the well digger came, though, the women that remained in the village all arrived at the garden early to pull all the water out of the well and help however they could. The price to dig the well also went up since this man, Iburahima Niakhasso, was extremely busy, being one of the only available diggers in the area.
The molds have been lowered. As the rainy season is coming, the women are focusing on their grain crops. They are all very excited for the upcoming gardening season.
We are grateful to Rene for completing this project, and again extend or thanks to the Elmo Foundation for providing the funding.
