This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Laura Livesay.

The project was initially designed as a 3-stall latrine structure at the school. However plans were changed in favor of a 2-stall structure of superior quality.

Laura reports:

I just wanted to let you know that the latrine project for Ecole Dahra Montagne in Dahra, Senegal has been completed. The project took about 6 weeks to complete because of a slight interruption of work near the end of the project due to the Senegalese presidential election.

We held a meeting with the entire PTA, where it was decided to build only 2 bathrooms of superior quality to ensure longevity, instead of 3 bathrooms that may need to be replaced within a few years.

The brick makers arrived the next day to begin making the bricks needed for the project. While the bricks were drying, the hole for the septic tank was prepared. When the bricks were dry, the masons arrived for the construction of the toilets, which took about a week and a half. After that, the plumber arrived to connect the toilets to the septic tank.

The PTA decided to further beautify the structure by providing paint and labor.

The PTA, staff, and students of Ecole Dahra Montagne are extremely happy with this project, as am I…Thank you!

We wish to thank Laura for completing this project, and again extend our gratitude to The Soneva SLOW LIFE Trust for providing the funding.
