Conclusion of Ban Kadard School Handwashing Station Project – Thailand
This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Melissa Brown. To read about the beginning of the project, CLICK HERE.
The project was to construct a handwashing station at the school for students to wash their hands and brush their teeth.
Ban Kadard School was able to complete its Hand-washing / Teeth-brushing Station in Surin province, northeastern Thailand.
The principal, a handful of teachers, and the school maintenance man collaborated on the design and construction of this project. After two weeks of deciding what design it should be, and coming up with a list of materials, the actual construction of the sink only took one week. Luckily, it was completed within one month of receiving the money.
The final product consisted of a ten-foot sink which was built just alongside the first, second, and third grade classrooms.
Before the project was completed, there was no place for the children to wash their hands and brush their teeth other than in the gutters of the school. But thanks to Water Charity, Ban Kadard School can now teach their youngest students how to maintain daily habits of keeping their hands and teeth clean after lunchtime.
The school chose blue tile to match their school color, and posted a sign thanking Water Charity & Peace Corps for their kindness and collaboration on the project. The students just love brushing their teeth at their pretty blue sink! Thank you Water Charity for promoting health around the world!
We wish to thank Melissa for completing this project, and again extend our gratitude to The
Soneva SLOW LIFE Trust for providing the funding.
